Professor Joanne Arciuli was Dean (Research) of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University and theme lead for methodological innovations in the Caring Futures Institute from 2020-2023. She has led College wide initiatives on codesign, research-to-policy pathways, Indigenous ways of thinking and researching, building high quality interdisciplinary research teams, and provision of innovative research training for undergraduates, higher degree by research students, and early and mid career researchers. She has been involved in the Global Arts and Health Alliance since its inception.

Arciuli also leads a program of research focussed on child development and disability in the areas of speech, language, literacy, learning and cognition, school satisfaction, inclusive education, and broader aspects of wellbeing. Her research program has been continuously funded by the Australian Research Council since 2007, including a prestigious 4-year Future Fellowship (2014-2018).

She has served as the International Coordinator on the Board of the Society for Scientific Studies of Reading (US) and a Board member for the Luke Priddis Foundation (Australia). She has been an invited visiting scholar at The University of Padova (Italy), The University of Oslo (Norway), Pennsylvania State University (US), Nottingham Trent University (UK), and was an IAS Fellow at Durham University (UK). Prior to joining Flinders University, during her time at The University of Sydney, she received a SUPRA PhD Supervisor of the year award the highest research fellowship honour available, a SOAR fellowship.
