Jiseul Sophia Ahn

(she/her)

I'm a Banting postdoctoral research fellow at Université de Montréal. The key question that drives my program of research is "how can social contexts in families, schools, and work support or hinder young people's development toward well-being?" More concretely, I'm interested in understanding the role of, and the interplay between, personal factors (e.g., motivation, life goals) and sociocontextual afforances/constraints (e.g., social support, socioeconomic resources). Theoretical frameworks that guide my research include self-determination theory and the psychology of work, among others.

I obtained my PhD in counseling psychology at Université Laval, in Quebec City, Canada; my master's degree in educational psychology, with a specialization in motivation at Korea University, in Seoul, South Korea; my bachelor's degree in psychology in the Philippines. I also have an 8-year experience working as a teacher in Korea.
