Jessica DiCarlo

Dr. DiCarlo is an Assistant Professor in Geography in the School of Environment, Society and Sustainability and Faculty of Asian Studies and Environmental Humanities at the University of Utah.

Her research focuses on development, issues at the environment-society nexus, and China’s global engagements. She has conducted research on infrastructure, critical minerals, land and resource politics, disasters, rural livelihoods, public health, and US-China competition. With regional expertise is in China, Southeast Asia, Tibet, and Nepal, she is committed to long-term fieldwork and seeks to connect grounded cases with global processes. Her work engages critically with theories of Global China, state power, and extractivism, and has been published in leading journals across geography and development studies.
