Jess is an environmental scientist and spatial planner, with a focus on marine environments and problems of scale in natural resource management. Her work draws upon and integrates across diverse fields, using qualitative and quantitative research methods to tackle conservation and natural resource problems. Jess’ current research focuses on co-designing approaches to futures thinking with Traditional Owner groups in the Great Barrier Reef, and exploring the types of resilience strategies and pathways adopted by these groups. Her previous work includes assessing policy and regulatory frameworks in the context of emerging reef restoration and adaptation technologies, identifying conservation priorities and key policies to address threats facing global and regional chondrichthyan biodiversity, and understanding how spatial and temporal scales can influence systematic conservation planning outcomes.
