Jess comes from Dunedin, in New Zealand, and studied geology at Otago University before moving to Canberra to complete a PhD on the physics of lava flow emplacement at the ANU. He's currently working at the CSIRO on the dynamics of magmatic sulfide ore bodies.
Jess's research interests include: geological fluid mechanics; physical volcanology; structural and metamorphic geology and petrology and sometimes the philosophy of science.
