- Senior Lecturer in Education, University of Glasgow
Dr Jeremy Law is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on dyslexia, literacy development and educational psychology, with particular interests in how children learn to read and write, why some learners experience persistent difficulties, and how research can inform effective teaching and support.
His research spans dyslexia across the lifespan, from the development and identification of literacy difficulties in childhood to the educational, workplace and wider life experiences of dyslexic adults. His work has examined the cognitive and linguistic processes involved in reading and spelling, including phonological and morphological skills, as well as literacy instruction, teacher knowledge and practice, and evidence-based approaches to supporting struggling readers.
More recently, his research has increasingly examined how educational and social environments shape the experiences of people with dyslexia. He works with Dyslexia Scotland on research into the experiences of dyslexic people in Scotland and is a Research Affiliate of the organisation. This work has contributed to public and policy discussions about dyslexia, identification, support and reasonable adjustments.
Jeremy also contributes his research expertise to national discussions about literacy education in Scotland, including work with Education Scotland. A central aim across his research and public engagement is to translate evidence about literacy and dyslexia into better educational practice, policy and support.
Jeremy is dyslexic himself, bringing lived experience alongside his academic research to his work on dyslexia.
