Jennifer Routledge

Working under the supervision of Dr. Paul Szpak, in the Trent Environmental Archaeology Lab at Trent University, I use stable isotope analysis to reconstruct the paleoecology of circumpolar megafauna. Through analysis of stable sulfur, carbon and nitrogen isotopes we gain insights regarding the food web ecology of marine mammals, both past and present. A deep-time perspective on the marine system adds value by creating a baseline to compare with modern ecosystems elucidating stability or change in the face of an anthropogenically altered environment.
Prior to embarking on my PhD studies, I completed a Master's and a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology.
