As associate professor in the Faculty of Environment at the University of Waterloo, Dr Lynes's research focuses on the intersection of sustainability and marketing, with a particular emphasis on how organizations communicate information about sustainability. She holds a PhD from Griffith University, Australia, a Masters in Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing from the University of Guelph. Her work has been featured in the Nature Energy, the Globe and Mail and on CBC’s The Current. Research partnerships have included Scandinavian Airlines, musician Jack Johnson, Live Nation, Tennis Canada, Plug n Drive, NRCan, Office of Consumer Affairs and the Ontario Power Authority (now IESO).
Known for community building, Dr Lynes has demonstrated leadership in sustainability for over two decades and established a reputation for turning ideas into action by bringing people together.
Her leadership experience includes 10 years as a board member for REEP Green Solutions, six years as director of Canada’s leading program in the environment and business and three-years as co-director of Canada’s first undergraduate program in Sustainability & Financial Management (SFM). During her time as co-director of SFM, the program tripled student enrolment while building a strong community of future sustainability leaders.
