Jelke Boesten is Professor in Gender and Development. Her research focuses on violence against women and the ramifications for policy in Latin America. Her latest book, co-authored with Lurgio Gavilán, is called Perros y promos: Memoria, violencia y afecto en el Perú posconflicto (IEP 2023). It received the Flora Tristan Best Book Award of the Latin America Studies Association-Peru section, and the honourable mention of the LASA Iberoamericano book award. Their article ‘Military Intimacies: Peruvian Veterans and Narratives about Sex and Violence’, published in the Latin American Research Review (2023) won Best Article. In 'Debris: autoethnography, feminist epistemology, ethics, and sexual violence.' International Feminist Journal of Politics, 26(3), 523–543. the authors reflect on some of the ethical implications of this British Academy funded research project.
