Jeffrey MacKeigan, Ph.D., is a senior advisor for Michigan State University Office of Research and Innovation. He also serves as a senior fellow for research infrastructure in the Office of Research and Innovation, and professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Human Development in the MSU College of Human Medicine.
Dr. MacKeigan’s research uses a variety of cutting-edge technologies, combined with tumor cell biology and drug discovery expertise to study complex diseases. The MacKeigan laboratory has been awarded over 35 externally funded research grants, many from the National Institutes of Health, including the National Cancer Institute.
Prior to becoming a senior advisor, MacKeigan was assistant dean for research in the MSU College of Human Medicine. Before joining MSU, MacKeigan held positions at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research and Van Andel Research Institute. Dr. MacKeigan has fostered several important relationships for the university with leaders and researchers at hospital systems, universities, and biomedical research institutes and with the many great collaborators in the region. His additional leadership roles include serving as co-chair of the MSU Health Sciences Council, and as a board member of the American Cancer Society in Michigan.
MacKeigan holds a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from the University of Colorado and earned a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of North Carolina Medical School at the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. He completed his post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School with fellowship funding from the American Cancer Society.
