Jared Margulies is Lecturer of Environmental Governance in the Department of Geography at University College London. He was formerly an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and the Environment at the University of Alabama. His interdisciplinary research in human-environmental geography focuses on a range of subjects, including (geo)political ecologies of legal and illegal wildlife trade, conservation conflicts, and creative methodologies in human-environment geography. His first book, The Cactus Hunters: Desire and Extinction in the Illicit Succulent Trade, was published in 2023 by University of Minnesota Press and received honorable mentions for the GLOBE Book Award for Public Understanding of Geography from the American Association of Geographers in 2024 and the Outstanding Book Award of the Cultural and Political Ecology Specialty Group of the AAG, also in 2024. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Conservation Biology, Conservation and Society, and the Southeastern Geographer. His work has been funded by the National Geographic Society, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund, and the BAND Foundation, and the US Fulbright program.
