Janet Macharia is a Kenyan international trade lawyer, policy practitioner and legal academic whose work focuses on the intersection of trade, investment and development in Africa. She is a Teaching Fellow at Strathmore Law School, where she teaches international trade law, business associations and e-commerce, supervises student research, and mentors emerging legal professionals. She also serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Trade Negotiations and Investment Forum, where she convenes high-level dialogue and collaboration on some of the most pressing trade and investment issues affecting the continent.

Her research and policy work explores how legal and institutional frameworks can be used to advance practical, development-oriented outcomes, with particular interests in special economic zones, sustainable trade, green industrialisation and Africa’s role in shaping global trade debates. Janet has contributed to research and policy initiatives on sustainable production, investment strategy and trade governance, and has presented her work at leading international economic law forums in Africa. She holds an LL.M. with distinction in International Economic Law and Policy, and brings to her work a strong commitment to mentorship, cross-sector engagement and building African capacity in trade law and policy.
