Jane Lowers, PhD, MPA is an assistant professor of palliative medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, USA. Dr. Lowers earned a PhD in palliative care from Lancaster University (UK) after a career in medical journalism. Her research centers on what people want at the end of life vs what they get, and the social, structural, and policy-related reasons for the discrepancy. Dr. Lowers' current work focuses on people aging without immediate family, particularly individuals with dementia, and the friends and neighbors who become involved in their care. She is a 2024-24 Health and Aging Policy Fellow.
