Jamie Meyers-Riczu

(She/Her/Hers)

I am currently a SSHRC postdoctoral fellow at Carelton University as well as a sessional instrutor at Concordia University of Edmonton. My doctoral research focused on expressions of heroic masculinity to two of Franz Liszt's symphonic poems: Tasso: Lamento e Trionfo and Mazeppa.

My postdoctoral research project, entitled “Selling Black Gold: Audiovisual Mediations of Alberta’s Petroculture,” explores how the corpus of audiovisual material produced and/or sponsored by Imperial oil created and perpetuated Alberta’s oil culture. I consider how music and sound add to the persuasiveness of such media and what consequences images and sounds of place, and the resource industries that define these places, have on cultural production and public reception.
