- PhD Candidate in Youth Political Engagement, Nottingham Trent University
I am currently a PhD student at Nottingham Trent University studying young people’s political engagement in the Division of Politics and International Relations. I have also been lecturing at Birmingham City University for 3 years, where I currently teach on the Classical and Contemporary Social Theory module. I previously completed a BA (hons) in Sociology at Birmingham City University and an MA in Social and Political Theory at the University of Birmingham.
My PhD thesis is exploring young people’s political engagement with a particular focus on how certain social groups face barriers to political participation. I am also interested in exploring how alternative political activities may lead to the formation of social policies and to what extent non-electoral forms of politics influence politicians. As I have a large interest in understanding how ideas arising from economic ideologies influence human behaviour and values, I plan, in the future, to analyse if economic ideas have been a significant factor in young people’s declining electoral presence.
