Dr. Jacques Wels is a quantitative sociologist. He earned his PhD from the Université libre de Bruxelles (Belgium) in April 2016. Throughout his career, he has worked with various institutions, including the World Bank as a consultant, the University of Cambridge as an Affiliated Lecturer, and University College London (UCL) as a Research Fellow. He has also conducted research stays at King’s College London (2014–15), Waseda University (2018), the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training (2019), and the University of Tokyo (2020).
Currently, he is the Principal Investigator of an ERC/UKRI-funded project at the UCL Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing and a Permanent Research Associate at the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), where he is the director of the Health & Society Research Unit.
His research focuses on the interplay between employment, social protection, and population health, as well as cross-national comparative methods and assisted dying.
