- Lecturer in Conservation Ecology, University of Aberdeen
Jack Bamber is a conservation ecologist and lecturer at the University of Aberdeen, specialising in predator-prey dynamics, non-lethal predator management, and applied conservation science. He graduated with a Master's degree in Conservation and Zoology from Bangor University in 2017, before working in practical conservation with the Red Squirrel Trust Wales. This early experience fostered a commitment to solutions-focused conservation, blending ecological insight with on-the-ground impact.
Jack went on to complete a PhD at the University of Aberdeen, working under the supervision of Prof. Xavier Lambin (Aberdeen), Dr. Chris Sutherland (University of St Andrews), and Kenny Kortland (Scottish Forestry). Jack’s research operates at the interface between ecological science and management, and conservation conflicts. His work combines large-scale field trials, statistical modelling, and stakeholder collaboration.
In addition to his research, Jack is now working at the university of Aberdeen as a lecturer, providing field-based teaching in wildlife ecology, habitat survey, and species monitoring across the wider topics of wildlife conservation and management.
