Ivan Herrera Peco

Iván Herrera Peco earned his PhD in Surgery from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 2011, graduating cum laude with a thesis on astrocyte activation in drug-resistant epilepsy. After research and management posts in clinical neuro­science and biomedical innovation—including leading quality and technology-transfer units at Fundación Puerta de Hierro—he joined Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (UAX) in 2017. Actually holding a permanent Professorship at Universidad Camilo José Cela.
Professor Herrera Peco’s scholarship centres on digital health communication, health literacy, the humanisation of care and the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, themes he pursues as principal investigator of the SocialHealthcare group.
A committed educator, he has supervised over 100 undergraduate and postgraduate theses and teaches across nursing, pharmacy, nutrition and veterinary programmes.
