Isabel Joely Black

I am an early career researcher and teaching fellow at the University of Manchester, UK. I specialise in magic and medicine in Ancient to Late Antique Egypt. I also have an interest in science fiction, materiality studies, and the archaeology of emotion. She reviews for the British Fantasy Society and is writing a book on making magical objects. She is currently writing a paper on Moominmama's handbag. For the last two years, she has been building a miniature of the Moomin House to study art and craft in process, as well as the relationships between Moomins and the physical world around them.
