I completed my Psychology degree at Marburg University and PhD at the University of Cape Town (UCT). After having worked in a corporate environment and in community development for five years, I joined UCT as an academic in the field of work psychology. I am currently a Professor in the School of Management Studies and holder of the DSI/NRF SARChI Chair in Creation of Decent Work and Sustainable Livelihood. In my research I apply principles of work psychology to alleviate poverty, notably through the annual South African National Living Wage Study which determines the living wage level for South Africa. Amongst others, I am the chairperson of the Living Wage South Africa Network, an executive committee member of the Network of Occupational and Organisational Psychology in Countries of the South and editor-in-chief of the International Perspectives in Psychology.
