Ikechukwu Ejekwumadu

Ikechukwu Ejekwumadu is a sport sociologist and Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Sports Science, University of Tübingen. His work explores the lived experiences of aspiring and migrant players, analysing how African youth pursue mobility and success through sport within the promises and constraints of neoliberalism. Using qualitative and ethnographic approaches,he examines the opportunities, risks, and structural inequalities shaping these trajectories. In addition, he analyses racism and the commodification of African athletes in European football and also investigates processes of integration in and through sport, as well as sport-for-development initiatives. His research contributes to debates on global inequality, agency and transnational mobility in and through contemporary sport. His research work has been published in leading peer reviewed international journals such as International Review for the Sociology of Sport and European Journal for Sport and Society.
