Dr Ievgeniia Kopytsia is an expert in climate, energy law and policy, with deep expertise spanning international, European and Ukrainian legal frameworks. Her dynamic research and teaching career has taken her across multiple European institutions, including universities in Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Italy and Spain.
She earned her PhD with a pioneering dissertation examining air quality regulation through the interconnected lenses of Ukrainian, EU and international law. Her academic contributions include authoring comprehensive textbooks, practical study guides, and over 20 peer-reviewed scholarly articles. As a respected voice in her field, Kopytsia is frequently invited to speak at international conferences, where she shares her expertise on pressing challenges including climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable development, and the green transition.
Dr Kopytsia currently serves as a MSCA4Ukraine research fellow at the University of Genoa, where she leads the RESCLIM LAW project. This innovative research initiative explores legal frameworks for climate resilience and adaptation, with a particular focus on developing robust regulatory mechanisms to address climate-related challenges. She also contributes to climate law research at the University of Oxford as an academic visitor, enhancing international academic collaboration on critical climate law issues.
Dr Kopytsia serves as Head of the Centre for Sustainable Development and Environmental Law at Yaroslav Mudryi National Law University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), where she leads research and capacity-building at the intersection of environmental protection, climate governance, and post-war recovery.
She also co-leads the Europe–Ukraine Energy Transition Hub at IKEM (Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility), a collaborative platform dedicated to facilitating expert dialogue, policy development, and knowledge exchange on sustainable energy transitions. Through the Hub, Dr Kopytsia works closely with international academics, policymakers, and practitioners to support Ukraine’s integration into European energy markets, develop legally robust pathways for decarbonisation and energy security, and deliver targeted capacity-building activities for stakeholders across Ukraine and the EU.
