Ian Maxwell is an Associate Professor in Theatre and Performance Studies at the University of Sydney. He is a graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts School of Drama, where he majored in Directing for Theatre.
His research work has included studies on the health and wellbeing of actors, historical work on the influences of key international figures on Australian acting and directing, and a body of theatre-based work drawing upon performances originally created by Jewish artists during the Second World War.
Ian teaches a range of units of study: two second year units: the core introductory unit PRFM 2601: Being There and PRFM 2604: Sociology of Theatre, a third year option, PRFM 3606: Theories of Acting and an Honours seminar on Critical Theory and Performance.
