Ian has taught in the School of Management at the University of Bath since 2007 and prior to that he worked in the Centre for Eurasian Studies at the University of Reading. Before entering academe, he worked in accounting in local authorities, principally with Wiltshire County Councils.

Ian has taught at universities in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan and was worked with universities and students in Afghanistan.

He has co-authored three text books and is currently working on a new book on management accounting and is co-authoring a commissioned book on behavioural accounting and finance. Ian is also joint editor of the International Journal of Behavioural Accounting and Finance.
