Andi is a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Geodetic, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. He obtained his PhD from the Australian National Centre for Ocean Resources and Security (ANCORS), University of Wollongong with Australian Leadership

Awards (ALA) and he was also awarded Alison Sudradjat Award for being one of the top 4 ALA awardees. He obtained a master degree from the University of New South Wales, Australia, focusing on the maritime boundary delimitation between Indonesia and Timor Leste. Andi is also an alumnus of the UN-Nippon Foundation Fellowship, a research and internship program organized by the UN Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS). For the program, he conducted research at ANCORS and UN DOALOS in New York in 2007 and he was one of the only ten scholars around the globe given the opportunity.

In relation to this expertise he is also involved in the revision of the 5th edition of Manual on the Technical Aspects of the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (TALOS) published by the International Hydrographic Bureau, Monaco. He has published around 230 works in the fields of geospatial aspects of ocean affairs and the law of the sea in the forms of journal articles, books, conference proceedings, and popular- scientific articles both in English and Bahasa Indonesia. He is a productive opinion author with more than 60 articles on the Jakarta Post. He has presented his various works in several international fora in Asia, Australia, America, Europe and Africa since 2005. A president of an African country invited him in 2013 for advice regarding his expertise on maritime boundary delimitation. For his achievement in scientific and popular publications, Andi has received awards from Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Indonesia.

Andi has conducted researches in collaboration with prominent international scholars such as National Bureau of Asian Research (Washington) on maritime and energy security in Asia; Center for International Law NUS on the South China Sea issues. He has also been invited to speak at different fora organized by prominent institutions such as Australian National University, the United Nations, NTNU Taiwan, CSIS, RSIS Singapore, The Habibie Center, European Union, ASEAN, RECAAP Singapore, RIS India, International Commission of Jurists Australia, the Asian Foundation, Jinan University, King’s College London, China-ASEAN Research Institute. Andi gave a presentation at one of the sessions in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly 2017 in the United Nations Headquarter on 7 June 2017.

In addition to his academic assignment, Andi is also currently the Head of the Office of International Affairs of Universitas Gadjah Mada. For this position, Andi is responsible to take care of international collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada and its overseas partners, either universities or companies. He, along with his staffs in the office, is responsible in initiating, maintaining, and implementing cooperation in different areas with partners in Asia, Australia, America, Europe and Africa. The collaboration includes student exchanges, faculty member exchange, research collaboration, and University-Industry partnership.
