I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where my research focused on the social ecology of stress and coping among homeless refugee families. In addition to this, I have earned an M.S.W. with a concentration in Community Organizing and Advocacy from the same institution and an M.A. and B.A. in Psychology from Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea.

Following my doctoral studies, I served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of California – Berkeley, concentrating on mental health and social conflict research. Currently, I am affiliated with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) as a tenured Associate Professor in the School of Social Work.

My professional engagement extends to affiliations with various institutions dedicated to health and well-being, including the VCU Institute for Women’s Health, the Immigrant and Refugee Research Institute at the University at Buffalo, and the VCU Center on Health Disparities, reflecting a broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research commitments.
