Honghui Shen is a PhD researcher at the University of Southampton, based in the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and affiliated with the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre. His work sits at the intersection of computer science and global health, focusing on how digital platforms can strengthen emergency blood donation coordination in Ghana and similar resource-constrained settings through hospital-led, community-based models.

With a background in software development, he has led the development of a cross-platform mobile application that operationalises a novel event-driven donor mobilisation workflow, enabling hospitals to initiate and coordinate real-time blood requests while enhancing transparency, trust, and community engagement. His research is inherently multidisciplinary, spanning mobile and web engineering, human–computer interaction, and health systems priorities such as timely access to blood for urgent care.
