- Postdoctoral research associate in neuroimaging and neurodegeneration, Universidad Miguel Hernández
I am an experienced researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry with specialised skills in statistical data analysis and translation of data. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Iceland followed by an MRes degree in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience specialising in Neuropsychology from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. I was then awarded the Vice Chancellor’s International Scholarship for Research Excellence to complete my PhD studies at the University of Nottingham in the UK. After graduation I then spent six years studying the neural activity underpinning gait in ageing and in people with Parkinson's disease at Newcastle University (UK) working as a research associate. While in Newcastle I addtionally ran a large clinical trial assessing the feasibiltiy, acceptability, safety and the efficacy of non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation in people with Parkinson's disease. In 2025 I joined the Institute of Neuroscience (Universidad Miguel Hernandez-CSIC) in Alicante (Spain) as a postdoctoral research associate. In Spain I am developing novel methodologies to measure neuroinflammation using diffusion weighted MR imaging. My primary research interests are in understaing the neural control of human movement and how this is altered in pathological conditions using advanced neuroimaging techniques.
