Professor Hilde Tubex is Director of Criminology at the Law School of the University of Western Australia (UWA). Her areas of expertise are comparative criminology and penal policy, Indigenous peoples and the criminal justice system, criminalised women, life sentenced prisoners and parole. After migrating to Australia in 2007, she worked for four years at the Department of Corrective Services in Western Australia as Team Leader Research and Evaluation. She resumed her academic career at UWA in 2011, after receiving an ARC Future Fellowship investigating penal cultures in Australian jurisdictions. Recent projects she worked on are: Stories that mater: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ experiences with the criminal justice system (Indigenous Justice Research Program); Women in Prison Survey (WA Criminal Justice Research Grant Fund); The use of force by Indigenous women – an interactional and contextual approach (Criminology Research Council); Mind the gap: A study on the reintegration needs of returning prisoners (WA Criminal Justice Research Grant Fund).
