Hermanpreet Singh

(she/her)

Hermanpreet Singh is a sociologist whose research examines the social, cultural, and political dimensions of later life, with particular interests in retirement, old age, aging, care, assisted dying, health, and social inequality. Her work explores how experiences of ageing are produced through the interplay of public discourse, institutional practices, and social policy, and the way these processes shape the lives of older persons across diverse social and healthcare contexts. Drawing on qualitative and interdisciplinary approaches, including arts-based methods such as photovoice, her research seeks to understand how ageing is experienced, represented, and governed, while advancing scholarship that informs policy and promotes equity in later life.

She is the winner of the 2025 Canadian Sociological Association’s ‘Outstanding Graduating Sociology (Doctoral) Student Award’ and was nominated for the Governor General of Canada Medal for her doctoral research. She is an active member of the Canadian Network of Durkheimian Studies, and her research interests also include the works of Durkheim, Mauss, Hubert, and Hertz.

She is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Social Dimensions of Aging at Cape Breton University (Sept 2026).
