Herkulaas MvE Combrink

Dr. Herkulaas Combrink has an interdisciplinary background in Health Sciences and Computer Science, with a specialization in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. He serves as Co-Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Digital Futures (ICDF) and leads the Knowledge Mapping Lab, a research group he established to advance research in computational infodemiology, knowledge mapping, and human language technology.

His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence for Education (AI4ED), medical science, and the application of data-driven approaches to better understand and address misinformation and information disorders. His work explores how cognitive biases, argumentative fallacies, and limited evidence contribute to emotionally driven public discourse and the emergence of infodemics. Together with his research team, he develops computational methods and AI-driven solutions to improve understanding of these complex phenomena and support evidence-based interventions that mitigate societal harm.

Dr. Combrink has led and contributed to numerous interdisciplinary projects spanning health systems, public health, knowledge mapping, human language technologies, and artificial intelligence. His research continues to support the development of innovative solutions for infodemic management, responsible AI, and broader societal impact. Drawing on extensive experience in artificial intelligence, analytics, and research project management, he is committed to translating scientific innovation into practical solutions that create meaningful public value.
