Helen Ringrow is Associate Professor in Contemporary Discourse at the University of Portsmouth. She holds a PhD from Queen’s University Belfast, where she researched how ideals about femininity and women's bodies are constructed in French and English cosmetics advertisements. Her publications include Abortion in Ireland: The Language of the Campaign for Reproductive Rights (Bloomsbury, 2026, co-authored with Simon Statham) and The Language of Cosmetics Advertising (Palgrave, 2016). Her research interests include advertising language; social and traditional media language; language, gender and religion; online communities; and the connections between language and social justice.
