Helen Margetts OBE FBA is a political scientist researching data-intensive digital governance and politics. She is a Senior Advisor and Visiting Professor at LSE Data Science Institute, and holds the Chair in Society and the Internet at the University of Oxford (since 2004). She was formerly Programme Director for Public Policy at the Alan Turing Institute (2018-2025), Director of the Oxford Internet Institute (2011-2018) and Professor of Political Science and Director of the School of Public Policy at UCL (1999-2004).

Her books include Data Science, AI and Digital Era Governance (with Patrick Dunleavy, forthcoming) and Political Turbulence: How Social Media Shape Collective Action (with Peter John, Scott Hale and Taha Yasseri) which won the Political Studies Association's Mackenzie prize for the best politics book, 2017. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Years Honours List, 2019, and is a Fellow of the British Academy.
