Heike Schänzel is Professor and Academic Lead of the PhD Programme in the School of Hospitality & Tourism at Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. She completed her PhD in 2010 at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, where she explored family holidays from gender, generation, and group perspectives, and has published extensively on families, children, and gender issues in tourism, leisure, and hospitality. Her research interests include inter-generational relationships and wellbeing, childism, feminism, masculinities, experiential aspects, social sustainability, and social justice issues in tourism and hospitality. She is the chief co-editor of Social Impact of Tourism, Frontiers in Sustainable Tourism.
