Dr Heidi Riley is an independent consultant and adjunct research fellow in the School of Politics and International Relations, University College Dublin. She is also an affiliate researcher in the Department of War Studies, Kings College London.

Her research focuses on masculinity and insurgency, conflict related trauma, and innovative peace mediation practices. She has led research projects on women’s participation in peace mediation and transformative mediation. She has also written broadly on issues relating to UNSCR 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, men and conflict related trauma, and the role of the arts in peacebuilding. She has worked on a variety of conflict and post-conflict contexts including Nepal, Northern Ireland, South Sudan, Ukraine, Syria and Iraq, and consults for a variety of policy, practice, and academic organisations. Her recent book is titled Rethinking Masculinity: Ideology, Identity and Change in the People’s War in Nepal and its Aftermath and is part of the book series, Men and Masculinities in a Transnational World. Teaching areas include, politics of peace and conflict, gender and conflict, and qualitative methods. She previously worked for the Conflict Resolution Unit at the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as for a number of Irish NGO’s.

She holds a PhD in International Relations from University College Dublin, an MPhil in International Peace Studies from Trinity College Dublin, and an MA Honours in International Relations from the University of Edinburgh.
