- Lecturer, Arden University
I am a Lecturer in the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Law at Arden University. I recently achieved my PhD in Law and Criminology, with my research focusing upon England and Wales’ most retributory form of life imprisonment; whole life orders. My research identified harms caused by the sanction and questioned whether whole life orders are inhuman and degrading, contrary to Article 3 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
I am passionate about the mental wellbeing of social researchers and recently co-founded the Sensitive and Traumatic Research Network – a network for researchers of any discipline, who are undertaking or have undertaken emotionally challenging research. The network organises events centred around research practice (and improving research culture in higher education), wellness, and wellbeing.
I also volunteer with The Hardman Trust and am a member of The British Society of Criminology, The European Society of Criminology, The British Psychological Society, and The Howard League for Penal Reform.
