Hank Nuwer is an emeritus professor at Franklin College. Hank Nuwer is the author of "Wrongs of Passage," "Broken Pledges," "High School Hazing," "The Hazing Reader," and "Hazing: Destroying Young Lives." Hank founded and helps maintain the Buffalo State Hazing Collection, the only special collection devoted entirely to hazing and bullying scholarship. HazingPrevention.org's "Hazing Hero" award was named in his honor. He is a member of Investigative Reporters and Editors. He and his wife Malgorzata Wroblewska-Nuwer reside in Alaska and maintain a country cabin east ofWarsaw, Poland. He has given lectures on the topic of hazing education at well over 100 colleges and universities, including Dartmouth, Cornell, the University of Pennsylvania, and University of Oregon. His fictional "Sons of the Dawn: A Basque Odyssey" has a sub-theme of hazing and bullying in the old American West. He is completing a biography of Kurt Vonnegut at present. He is a former faculty member at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks; Clemson, the University of Richmond and Ball State University--and a member of the BSU Journalism Hall of Fame.

Honours

2023 and 2024 Alaska Press Club Columnist of Year. 2024 Alaska Children's Trust Champion for Kids. HazingPrevention.org named its annual anti-hazing hero awards after Hank. He has an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the State University of New York. He was elected to the Ball State University Journalism Hall of Fame.
