Hamed Kazemzadeh

I am Dr. Hamed Kazemzadeh, a researcher, educator, linguist, and immigration policy specialist based in Calgary, Canada. I currently work as a Research Associate at the TIES Centre for Immigrant Research, where I am involved in community-based and policy-oriented research on immigration, newcomer settlement, integration, belonging, and regional development. I also teach at the University of Calgary in the School of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures and Cultures.

My academic background is interdisciplinary. I hold a PhD in Oriental Studies, completed through an international academic program involving the University of Warsaw and Lund University. I also hold a Master of Arts in Conflict Studies from the University of Ottawa. Over the years, my research interests have included migration and immigration policy, peace and conflict studies, linguistics, Iranistics, Caucasus studies, and the broader political, cultural, and social dynamics of Eurasia.

My work today brings these different areas together. I am particularly interested in connecting academic research with practical policy and community needs. Much of my current work is focused on understanding how immigration policies and settlement systems can better support newcomers, strengthen smaller and northern communities, promote intercultural understanding, and create stronger relationships among newcomers, Indigenous peoples, governments, and community organizations.
