• Emeritus Professor of Housing, UNSW

Hal Pawson (https://cityfutures.be.unsw.edu.au/about-us/our-profiles/hal-pawson/) became an Emeritus Professor at UNSW in 2025. A highly experienced researcher in the urban planning field, he joined UNSW’s City Futures Research Centre in 2011 from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. He retains an honorary professor position at Heriot-Watt. His key interests span many aspects of housing policy and housing markets - from homelessness to home ownership. The second edition of his latest co-authored book, 'Housing Policy in Australia: A case for system reform' (Palgrave) was published in 2025. From 2019-2023 he served as Managing Editor of Housing Studies, the leading international journal in this field. He is informally affiliated with Senator David Pocock, as an unpaid part-time advisor.
