- Research Fellow in Oceanography, The University of Melbourne
Guisela Grossmann-Matheson is an oceanographer with extensive experience in meteorological and oceanographic data analysis, with a particular focus on extreme metocean events. She holds a Master’s degree in Marine Geology and Geophysics and earned her PhD in Ocean Engineering from the University of Melbourne.
Her expertise includes wind–wave modelling, statistical data analysis, and large-scale metocean assessments using observational data, reanalysis products, remote sensing, and numerical model outputs. She has worked extensively with future climate projections, including wind resource assessments for offshore wind developments and analyses of tropical cyclone-generated waves.
Dr Grossmann-Matheson is currently an ocean waves researcher in the Ocean Engineering Group at the University of Melbourne. Previously, she spent 15 years as an oceanographer at the PETROBRAS Research Centre, where she developed metocean design criteria for offshore projects and contributed to environmental impact assessments.
