- Lecturer and director of the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the Mammal Research Institute, University of Pretoria
I currently run the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the Mammal Research Institute (MRI) at the University of Pretoria. I am involved in a diverse range of research programs including the development of past climatic records for the last 1000 years in southern Africa using baobab and acacia trees, ecological applications of stable isotopes in understanding aquatic food webs and a number of archaeological projects, such as the use of isotope data from animal remains and pottery to understand environmental conditions and dietary behavior from the Iron Age. More recent research interests are in the field of food and beverage authentication using stable isotope analysis, particularly the issue of honey adulteration in South Africa.
