Prof. Gilbert Abotisem Abiiro is an associate professor of health economics and policy, and the head of the Department of Health Services, Policy, Planning, Management and Economics, School of Public Health, University for Development Studies, Ghana. He holds a PhD in public health from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, and an MPH in health economics from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Gilbert has over ten years of research and teaching experience in public health (health policy, health economics, and health systems). His research interests and expertise are in health systems reform, universal health coverage, social protection, maternal health, health care financing, health policy analysis, and discrete choice modelling, in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly Ghana, Malawi, and Kenya. He has vast experience in collecting and analysing both quantitative and qualitative data. He currently has 41 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He teaches health economics, health care financing, health policy and planning, and research methods, among other courses, at the University for Development Studies, Ghana.
