Georgette Leah Burns is an Environmental Anthropologist who specialises in human interactions with nature. This ranges from research topics on sustainable rural development to ethical management of wildlife tourism. Leah is the Program Director for the Master of Environment at Griffith University. She is also an Expert Assessor for the IUCN Green List and a foundation member of the Wildlife Tourism Australia organisation. In addition to numerous book chapters and journal articles, Leah is co-editor of Engaging with Animals: Interpretations of a Shared Existence (Sydney University Press, 2014). From 2013-2015 she resided in Iceland where she was Head of the Department of Rural Tourism at Hólar University, and Head of Tourism Research the Icelandic Seal Center. Leah is driven by a passion to understand human-animal relationships and enable a future in which people and wildlife more equitably co-exist.
