I am a social and cultural gerontologist who works across disciplines to explore human ageing. My textbook Critical Questions for Ageing Societies, co-authored with Paul Nash, Leonard Davis School of Gerontology at University of Southern California was published by Policy Press in September 2020. It was nominated for the Richard Kalish award in 2021.
The challenge of population ageing is multi-faceted, requiring research evidence from a range of disciplines. As a result, all of my work has tended to be inter-disciplinary, involving collaboration with university and community partners. I have published a number of articles on the Gender Politics of Ageing, in which I argue that many of the challenges faced by demographic change are closely linked to women's rights, fertility rates and political culture.
