I am a research scientist and have over 30 years of experience in clinical and preclinical research. I previously worked at the Baker Heart & Diabetes Institute in Melbourne and, during my postdoctoral period (many years ago), at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and Hospital Necker-Enfants Malades in France.
My research includes investigations aimed at understanding the mechanisms of chronic diseases. I have particular interest in the regulation of the sympathetic nervous system which is implicit in the physiology of an array of biological systems, playing a role in a range of conditions including heart and kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, psychological stress, obesity, some cancers, polycystic ovary syndrome, POTS.......... As Director of The Iverson Health Innovation Research Institute at Swinburne University of Technology I am focused on solving real-world health challenges across the human lifespan. The breadth of our work includes intersecting themes comprising: Chronic Disease & Disability, Digital Health, Bioengineering, AI for Health, Neuromodulation and Computational Biology.
