- Senior Lecturer in Early Years Education, Sheffield Hallam University
I am a senior lecturer at the SIoE and the Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) lead at the Early Years Community Research Centre (EYCRC) based at the Meadows Nursery, Shirecliffe.
I have embedded the Philosophy for Children (P4C), an enquiry-based dialogic pedagogy, in a range of higher education contexts including collaborative professional dialogues, scaffolding student teachers facilitation of story books, supporting academic literacy and early years teachers understanding of critical thinking.
In my role as the RKE lead for the EYCRC, I have been involved in a range of research projects and facilitated student placement opportunities at the nursery for a wide range of courses.
I have developed and led an EEF funded programme Talk with Tales for Children (TWiTCH) for early years practitioners. The programme is based on repeated readings of traditional tales together with dialogic reading principles. I am a trustee for the Froebel Trust, and a member of Early Education, SAPERE (Society of the Advancement of Philosophical Enquiry and Reflection in Education), Dialogueworks and Think Together Sheffield (TTS).
