- PhD Candidate, School of Veterinary and Life Sciences, Murdoch University
Originally from New Zealand, Freya Jackson is currently undertaking a PhD project at Murdoch University to discover ways to encourage native bees to nest and increase populations in target habitats. Her research is primarily focused on the ground-nesting bee Homalictus dotatus, but she also has an interest in exploring the suitability of certain native bees (such as H. dotatus) as crop pollinators in WA. Her fascination with native bees began during her undergraduate studies, which led her to complete a Master of Science at the University of Auckland, where she investigated the impact of introduced honey bees on native plant-pollinator communities across off-shore islands.
