Frederik Dahlmann

Fred Dahlmann is Associate Professor of Strategy & Sustainability at Warwick Business School, University of Warwick, UK. Fred’s research investigates the role of organizational strategies, managerial practices, business models, policies and governance systems as well as individual mindsets in supporting a sustainability transformation. Specifically, he examines how companies (and the public sector) address and respond to systemic issues such as those covered by planetary boundaries and UN SDGs, with ongoing projects focusing on climate change, loss of biodiversity and water risks. Fred is also interested in the emerging phenomenon of the purpose ecosystem as an informal governance mechanism as well as the ethical and practical implications of the Anthropocene for business and managers. Fred’s research has been published in journals such as Organization Studies, Business Ethics Quarterly, International Journal of Operations and Productions Management, Business Strategy & the Environment, Journal of Business Ethics, Environmental Science and Policy, Earth System Governance, and the Anthropocene Review.

Fred is Associate Editor at the journal Business & Society and the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, as well as a member of the editorial review boards of Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics and Organization & Environment.

Fred is also a Senior Research Fellow of the Earth System Governance network, and member of the ESG Taskforces on the Sustainable Development Goals as well as co-convenor of the Taskforce on Governance of Nature and Biodiversity. He contributes to discussions on business, industry through and sustainability through various media and other engagements.

Fred holds a BSc Construction Engineering Management (Loughborough University), MSc Management (University of Bath), and PhD Management (University of Bath). Prior to joining WBS, he also gained professional experience in the construction sector and worked as an energy analyst in London.
