Frederick Oliver Beeby Maglaque

(he/him)

Frederick O. (Oli) Beeby Maglaque is currently finishing the second year of his Master of Arts in Art History at the University of British Columbia. Oli’s work examines representations and abstractions of “nature” in art and visual culture, particularly at their intersections with histories of colonial and capitalist exploitation. His current research focuses on how contemporary art practices attempt to map the conditions of the Capitalocene, and what these practices might offer in our present moment of ecological crisis. Oli also serves as the Exhibition Research and Development Manager at the Pacific Museum of Earth, where his study of extractivism, the visual paradigms of the natural sciences, and the history of the modern museum informs his curatorial practice
