Frank Monaghan is an Honorary Associate of the School of Languages and Applied Linguistics at the Open University, which he joined in 2002 after working as an EAL and English teacher in a large, multilingual comprehensive in Central London for twenty years.
He is a co-opted member of NALDIC (the National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum), the UK's EAL professional Association and editor of NALDIC Quarterly.
His expertise and research interests are in Linguistic Landscapes, bilingualism, EAL and mathematics, language and art, and the language of football fans and their banners.
He supports Liverpool Football Club.
